Limits
A rating is not a guarantee.
Fishing ratings do not guarantee catches, legal access, or safe wading. AI picks can be wrong. Source data can be delayed, stale, or missing. Check current regulations, closures, access permission, and the water in front of you before you go.
FAQ
Questions, answered from the product.
What is free, and what does Pro include?
Free includes every listed stream in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, West Virginia, and Michigan: USGS flow, 24-hour trend charts, a plain-English conditions read (flow peak and trend, water temp, recent rain, a clarity estimate, and which runs are on), NWS weather and barometric pressure, wading sketchiness, stream pinning, and the fly / conventional dashboard toggle. No payment is required. Pro is $49 USD/year or $9 USD/month and adds a 5-day signal with forecast rain amounts and AI stream forecasts with a 5–6 day flow outlook, AI fly or lure/bait picks, condition-specific tips, and Send It alerts (an email the evening before a pinned river looks like Send It). Pro AI requests are capped at 20 per hour.
Which states and waters are covered? Are lakes supported?
Coverage is USGS stream and river gauges in PA, OH, NY, WV, and MI. Some listed waters are tributaries to Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, Lake Michigan, or Lake Huron. Fish or Nah does not currently provide lake-surface fishing as its own water type.
How do fly and conventional fishing modes work?
The dashboard has a FLY / CONV toggle. Your choice is saved on your account. It changes technique labels and scoring flavor, and on Pro it changes the AI prompt from flies and hatches to lures, baits, and rigs.
How current are readings, and what happens when data is missing or stale?
USGS gauges report on their own schedules (often about every 15 minutes). The app caches USGS pulls for up to one hour and can serve that cache if USGS is unreachable — the dashboard labels that stale. If no gauge data is available, it says unavailable and does not invent sample readings. Weather can fail on its own; scores then use flow and trend only.
What do Send It, Maybe, and Stay Home mean?
They are fishability labels from a 0–100 score: SEND IT is 65 or higher, MAYBE is 40–64, STAY HOME is below 40. The score uses flow versus that gauge’s optimal range, 24-hour trend, and weather. It does not guarantee you will catch fish.
Does a favorable rating mean it is safe to wade?
No. Send It is about fishing conditions, not safety, legal access, or permission to fish. Wading sketchiness is a separate 0–100 estimate from flow versus a typical wadeable range. Always judge the water yourself and check current regulations, closures, and access.
How do I cancel, and when does Pro access end?
Open Manage Subscription on the plan page to use the Stripe customer portal. Canceling stops automatic renewal. Pro stays on through the end of the period you paid for. Canceling Pro is not the same as deleting your account.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. If you haven't had Pro before, you can try it free for 7 days, once, with no card. It ends by itself unless you add a card on your plan page; with a card, Pro continues at $49 USD/year or $9 USD/month, your pick.
What are Send It alerts?
A Pro feature. Pin a river, switch on its Send It alert, and we'll email you the evening before it looks like Send It. You get at most one email a night, only when a river turns good, and every alert email has an unsubscribe link.
Where do fishing reports come from, and how do I get mine removed?
For the lake-run rivers, Fish or Nah shows recent fishing reports from local shops and guides whose websites allow it, as facts only: the date, the species and spots a report mentions, and a link to read it on their site. We never copy a report's text. Sources whose terms don't allow that, including state agency reports and Facebook pages, appear as plain links. Reports belong to their authors and are not verified by Fish or Nah. To have your report removed, email bro@fishornah.com and it will be gone within a day.
How do angler reports work?
Any signed-in angler can post a quick report on a river card: the day, the fish, how it was (slow, fair, good or hot), and an optional spot and one-line note. Reports show under a display name you pick, never your email, and only signed-in users can see them. You can delete your own report while it is listed on the card, which shows the last 14 days; after that, email bro@fishornah.com to remove it. Anyone can flag a report, and two flags hide it until we review it. The rules are at fishornah.com/report-rules.
